It started with a problem most people never think about.

For years, finding a soap that actually worked with sensitive, vegan-friendly skin felt impossible. The high street offered endless options, colourful bottles, impressive claims, appealing scents. But the ingredient lists told a different story. Sulphates. Synthetic preservatives. Animal-derived ingredients buried in small print. Bar after bar, bottle after bottle, the same disappointing result: skin that felt tight, irritated, and stripped of everything it needed.

The options that did exist for sensitive, vegan skin were either difficult to find, eye-wateringly expensive, or so clinical they felt more like a medical product than something you would actually enjoy using.

So in 2020, SOAPHERA was born founded by Joanna, a passionate maker of handmade natural soap based in the UK.

From a kitchen to a home studio

What started as a personal mission to solve one woman's skincare problem quickly became something much bigger. Learning the cold process soap making method from scratch, testing every combination of plant oils and butters, researching every ingredient for its effect on sensitive skin, the early days were as much about discovery as they were about soap.

The first bars were made in small batches, tested thoroughly, and given to friends and family. The feedback was immediate and consistent. Skin felt softer. Irritation reduced. The tight, dry feeling after washing was gone. People started asking for more.

By the end of 2020 SOAPHERA had its first customers. By the end of 2021 it had hundreds. Every year since, the brand has grown, not through big marketing budgets or flashy campaigns, but through word of mouth from customers who found something that genuinely worked for their skin and could not stop telling people about it.

 

What we believe

We believe soap should be honest. Every ingredient in every SOAPHERA bar is there because it does something good for your skin. Nothing is included to bulk up a formula, extend a shelf life artificially, or make a label sound more impressive than it is.

We believe vegan skincare should not mean compromise. Plant-based ingredients, when chosen carefully and combined thoughtfully, can outperform synthetic alternatives in every way. Shea butter, coconut oil, apricot kernel oil, blue clay, essential oils. Nature has everything your skin needs.

We believe handmade matters. Every bar we make is produced in small batches by hand. This means freshness, care, and attention to detail that large-scale manufacturing simply cannot replicate. When you hold a SOAPHERA bar you are holding something that a real person made, tested, and is proud of.

We believe packaging should not cost the planet. From the very beginning every SOAPHERA bar has been packaged without plastic. Kraft paper, compostable wrapping, nothing unnecessary. Your bar arrives ready to use and leaves nothing behind that does not belong in the world.

 

Where we are now

Six years on from that first batch made in a home kitchen, SOAPHERA is still handmade in small batches from our home studio in the UK. We have never outsourced production. We have never compromised on ingredients. We have never added something to a formula just because it was cheaper or easier.

What has changed is the range. We now offer bars for face, body, and hair, each one formulated with the same care and the same question at the centre of every decision: is this genuinely good for the skin of someone with sensitive, reactive skin who refuses to compromise on their values?

If the answer is yes, it makes the cut. If it is not, it does not.
